Music can help deepen a person’s love of God and response to Him. Therefore, music is an integral part of the school community and curriculum at WCS. Students develop as singers, instrumentalists, and listeners during their elementary school years. WCS students learn to use music as a tool for worship and a way to glorify God. Students develop an understanding of this through the study of music and through performance. Our graduates attain high levels of musicianship and enjoy a significant head-start in secondary school music programs. We are blessed to have a music specialist teaching our students at WCS.
At WCS, we are pleased to offer:
Grades 1-3: two 30 minute class periods/week of music instruction
Grade 4 and 5: two 30 minute class periods/week of recorder instruction
Grades 6-8: two 40 minute class periods/week of instrumental band instruction
Concert Band: This program is designed specifically for students in Grades 7 and 8 who show high ability and interest in playing musical instruments. Students learn to play more difficult arrangements of musical pieces for the purpose of performance at special events such as the Christmas assembly, the Rotary music festival, musical evenings and graduation.
Choirs: Primary, Junior and Senior choirs practise weekly and are blessed to sing for church services throughout our community, as well as for chapels and special events such as Christmas Programs, Grandfriends’ Days, the Rotary Music Festival and other Choral Music occasions.
